Twelve people came to try our Open House Free Class, including several students from our Markham school who came to support this event! Things ran smoothly with a group of experienced students who already knew the routines, so that the new students always had someone to watch in front of them.

We start every class by forming into lines and doing a short meditation to clear our thoughts of the excitement of the day.

We have a routine set of warmup exercises and stretches, to get our bodies ready from head to toe.

Now that we are warmed up we begin our fundamentals training, going through some stances and then kicks.

We then move on to forms (Taolu) training, which is a set of defined movements and stances that help us to put the fundamentals training into use. This is probably one of the most common things we see people practice in martial arts movies, as these movements help us to learn some combinations to attack and defend.

We also had time for some punching drills, and for this demo class we kept them simple so the new students could get used to this type of movement. And it worked, they seemed to pick it up quickly!

All in all, it was a fun and entertaining event, but of course we had to do some push ups to round off the night!
