Shaolin Performances at the Term Party

30 students along with their family and friends came out to enjoy the much anticipated Summer Term Party at the STQI downtown Toronto school yesterday.

Everyone contributed to an incredible and delicious variety of pot luck dishes and drinks, from quiche to pizza, to fantasic desserts.  Thank you everyone for your efforts!

Instructor Dao began with a short speech that summarized the achievements and events of the summer term.

Participants were treated to a special summary video of all the summer term events and activities.  They also got to see a bonus sneak peak of CBC’s Cultural Day filming of Master Shi Guo Song and Shi Chang Dao.  For those that didn’t attend the party you’ll have to wait until it airs at the end of September.  More information will be available in the coming newsletters so watch for it!

The Shaolin Kids kicked off the performances with silent standing meditation.  Here they are getting focused for their performances.

Their first performance demonstrated their stances.  Keep in mind many of these kids just started a couple months ago.  Aren’t they great?

In the above two photos, the Shaolin Kids are performing Wu Bu Quan together.  Look how far young Giuliano has come!

We are very proud of all the achievements of the Shaolin Kids.  Here they are displaying their hard earned Shaolin Kids profiles where they unlock fun components as they earn points in class for demonstrating Shaolin Spirit behaviour in leadership, perseverance, compassion, etc.  They have been outstanding and we look forward to seeing their progress at the next Term Party in December!

Next up, the adults performed Wu Bu Quan in a specially choreographed interweaving pattern.  The performance was lead by Rosemary who began with an energetic and fierce “Z!”

Elvin, one of our most senior students demonstrated sparring with Instructor Dao using techniques from Wu Bu Quan and Shaolin Foundation.  It was a thrilling demonstration as Elvin neatly jumped and dodged a back foot sweep by Instructor Dao.

Immediately after, Elvin demonstrated Tong Bei Quan in a clean solo performance.

The audience was then treated to a surprise broadsword performance by Instructor Dao!

All our students in attendance took a photo together in our traditional term party school photo which will soon adorn our school walls.

Many door prizes were given away.  The grand prize was a $395 gift certificate towards classes in the fall term and was randomly drawn by Rosemary.  Congratulations to our lucky winner Sham!
